Meet one of my heroes…
This is Wauwatosa Fire Chief Barbara Kadrich. I call her Chief Barb. She was on duty the evening of February 14, 2021. That’s when my wife called 911 while I was turning blue on the kitchen floor.
Crew 2 from the Tosa Fire Department Station 51 responded. By the time they arrived at my home I was in a state of nonshockable cardiac arrest and possibly moments away from being gone for good.
The first responders acted quickly. They managed to open my airway by locating and removing a piece of steak lodged deep in my trachea. Miraculously, my heart rebooted, and I was rushed to the local hospital’s emergency room.
(I have since learned that a renowned cardiac researcher at the Medical College of Wisconsin calls these first responders the “best of the best.”)
With deep gratitude for the MANY everyday heroes who were a part of my rescue and recovery, I’ve made it my personal mission to support people who have dedicated their lives to leading, serving, and making a difference.
That’s why I wrote LIVE AGAIN! So that they—AND YOU—can continue to be the answer to other people’s prayers.
